A combination of good features, low price and compact build is something that you can’t expect to see in all garage door openers. - EASE OF USE
First off, the motors come with a smooth start and stop feature which makes the mechanism start out extremely slow as it accelerates to full speed and slowly decelerates until it fully halts. This feature lessens the wear and tear that the engine has to undergo, hence extending its life. It comes with an infrared sensor which reverses the door action if it comes into contact with any object or if there are any obstructions in between the sensors.
Moreover, it also comes with a keychain remote that blends well with your car keys, making it stylish yet intuitive. The remote keys are equipped with a rolling code technology that encrypts the signal sent and changes the code every time it is used. The wall console also has a vacation mode that turns off and disables all wireless device interaction, hence preventing theft while you are away. If you do not have a remote with you, the keyless entry system can also be used which can be accessed through a six digit pin code.
Installation can last up to half a day if you are not well versed with these types of system, so we do recommend watching videos in the internet so as to serve as your guide in installing this garage door opener.
With its ½ HP motor that is battery operated, you can be assured of a smooth operation with minimal electricity used as its charge can last up to 5,000 hours in standby mode. Its sensors also work seamlessly without any errors. Considering its cheap price, the material build isn’t cheap at all and can withstand a considerable pressure and mass of up to 500 pounds.
What we do like about this garage door opener is its smooth operation. The accelerating and decelerating motion is a good idea in decreasing the wear and tear as well as for making the system operate quieter.
Its motor also comes with a six year warranty, hence making your purchase really secured. The customer service is also good, even if this model is relatively new in the market. Most of all, this model comes cheap relative to other brands that come with the same amount of features.
- What we don’t like however is its packaging. This might not be an issue for many but trying to install this device without clear instructions can be a daunting task. Some instruction bullets are not accurate which can arise to some installation issues. However, this can be quickly remedied by watching installation videos in YouTube so we don’t see this as a major issue for the product.
Overall, the Skylink is a dark horse in the field of garage door openers. It offers wireless features that can be a good substitute for HomeLink and MyQ. The vacation mode in the panel is a good security option and most importantly the warranty is a good safety net for many.
The build is also solid and the option to upgrade with its accessories is also wide. Although it may present some issues in installation, a quick view on many videos can be a good remedy especially for those that do not have a helper.
