Finding a garage door opener that is both powerful yet smooth is not an easy task. Some wants their doors to be silent but are too disappointed if the chosen belt cannot carry the door itself properly due to the motor’s strength being sacrificed for noise reduction.
The LiftMaster 8355 strikes a balance between power and smoothness. It isn’t too powerful with its ½ HP motor but it is strong enough to drive even the heaviest doors but still with an ultra-silent operation.
- EASE OF USE
The main reason why the LiftMaster 8355 can perform even more silent than other motors is its P3 Motors which only operates in ½ horsepower, a quarter lesser than others. This means that it runs smoother but with the slight cost of power. Another advantage of this is that it consumes lesser electricity both in operation and standby mode. But this is perhaps the most balanced mechanism since you wouldn’t be needing a ¾ HP motor anyway for a garage door opener. The contraption by which the motor is placed is also engineered with the Motor Vibration Isolation System, which further isolates any noise that it creates.
This LiftMaster 8355 is equipped with the MyQ system hence allowing you to wirelessly control and monitor everything from your mobile phone. It is also equipped with the Security+ 2.0 which changes the code sent to the opener every time you open it. The Posi-Lock secures that your doors are sealed always once you close it while the Alert-2-Close system gives visual and audio warnings if ever the doors are closing if controlled through the MyQ and Timer-2-Close setting.
The LiftMaster gets installed relatively faster compared to other models in the market. If done correctly based on the instructions, the fixture can be up and running in about 45 minutes. We do recommend however that you watch some do-it-yourself videos prior to installing it in order to have a background on the specific actions to take. Upon installation, this product can somehow be noticeably slower compared to other door openers. This is so to ensure a smooth transition that is devoid of any significant noise.
It does have a sensor on both bays, adding an extra layer of protection if ever someone or an object, say your car, comes accidentally in contact with the garage door. The panel will also send a pop-up notification to you if ever the door is about to open or close. Over all, right from the installation until its actual use, this device does its job well in a more balanced fashion compared to other brands.
This is a balanced type garage door hence you might be wondering if the motor isn’t as fast compared to others. But that is what we actually like about it. It does not consume much electricity and it is also really smooth.
We also didn’t encounter any errors for that matter, making the installation stage a breeze. The strongest point of this product is its ability to be set-up fast without any problems as well as the side options which include the safety and security options.
- What we do like however to be added is a battery for a power back-up in terms of power outages. While it comes with a manual safety knob, we do think that an extra layer of back-up for power is a necessary addition to garage door openers. However, in terms of its price range and features, we are more than satisfied as to what it can offer.
Overall, the LiftMaster 8355 is a well-rounded device that provides good performance out of the price that you pay. It is compatible with the MyQ system as well as Homelink version 4 or higher, hence making it more advanced compared to others.
Its lifetime motor and belt warranty also gives us a hint of how secured one can be upon purchasing this fixture. It does have some areas that need improvement such as a battery back-up but overall, it does contain more than the basic things that one would absolutely look for in a door opener.
